What is the Virtual Skills Evaluation Program?
- The Virtual Skills Evaluation Program is designed to allow Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Candidates to complete their mandatory CNA skills evaluation remotely through Zoom.
- A Virtual Skills Evaluation is provided at no cost to the facility or the Candidate.
How does a Virtual Skills Evaluation work?
- Once a Candidate has completed an approved NATP, they may register for a Virtual Skills Evaluation.
- A Registered Nurse (RN) Evaluator observes the Candidate through Zoom using a camera instead of being present in the room during the evaluation.
- There will be a Proctor in the room with the Candidate; the Proctor assists with positioning the camera so the Evaluator can clearly see each task.
- The Candidate will be randomly assigned a total of five (5) skills to perform.
- The Candidate must successfully complete all five (5) skills to pass the Virtual Skills Evaluation.
How do I schedule a Virtual Skills Evaluation?
- An authorized facility representative (such as Training Program Director or Administrator) may request a Virtual Skills Evaluation here at least five (5) to seven (7) days prior to the need for testing. You will need the following information:
- Contact information for the Proctor
- Desired date(s) for Evaluations
- Number of Candidates to be tested
How much does a Virtual Skills Evaluation cost? Do CNA candidates need a voucher?
- There is no cost for a Virtual Skills Evaluation, thus no need for a voucher.
What is a Proctor?
- A Proctor is a representative of the Nurse Aide Training Program that assists the Virtual Skills Evaluation process by helping with lab set-up, camera positioning, and other procedural tasks.
- At least one (1) representative of the Nurse Aide Training Program must be trained as a Proctor before any Virtual Skills Evaluations can be conducted.
What are the requirements to become a Proctor?
- The Proctor must be a Registered Nurse (RN) OR a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) under the supervision of an RN.
- The Proctor must have the ability to operate a camera.
- The Proctor must complete a Proctor Training Session prior to hosting any evaluations.
What is a Proctor Training Session?
- We require at least one (1) representative of the Nurse Aide Training Program to undergo a Proctor Training Session prior to conducting any Virtual Skills Evaluations.
- The Proctor Training Session will, at minimum, cover:
- Proctor and Facility Responsibilities
- Evaluator Orientation to the Skills Lab
- Proctor Orientation
- CNA Candidate Orientation
- The Proctor Training Session must be scheduled at least one (1) day prior to the Candidate’s scheduled Virtual Skills Evaluation.
- It will be conducted via Zoom and lasts approximately one (1) hour.
How do I schedule a Proctor Training Session?
- An authorized facility representative must complete this form in order to request a Proctor Training Session.
What is an Evaluator?
- An Evaluator, also referred to as a Nurse Evaluator, is a representative from our CNA Virtual Skills Evaluation Program.
- Each of our Nurse Evaluators are Registered Nurses (RN).
- For more information on our Nurse Evaluators, you can meet the team here.
What are the requirements to become a testing center?
- If your facility is already an NATP-approved facility, the only requirement is to complete a one-hour, virtual Proctor Training Session.
How long is each Virtual Skills Evaluation?
- A typical Virtual Skills Evaluation lasts approximately 30 minutes. We schedule testing sessions in 60-minute blocks to allow for flexibility in set up, testing, paperwork, and clean up.
Do you test in the evening or on weekends?
- At this time, we do not currently schedule Virtual Skills Evaluations in the evening or on weekends. We operate on a standard schedule of 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday.
Do you require Social Security cards?
- The Candidate is only required to provide their Social Security Number during our secure registration process. During the Virtual Skills Evaluation, we only require a government-issue ID, such as a driver’s license, as well as confirmation of identity by the Proctor.
Does the CNA Candidate need to take the written test before the skills evaluation?
- No, the skills evaluation can be completed before or after the written test.
Can Candidates test at another facility that is not their own?
- A Candidate who has completed their Nurse Aide Training Program may utilize another facility’s authorized skills lab.
- The Candidate must have written permission from both facilities.
- For inquiries regarding this, please contact [email protected].
How many Candidates can you test in a day?
- This is largely dependent on the Nurse Aide Training Program’s lab schedule and Proctor availability. For each skills lab, we can test one (1) Candidate, per hour, per Evaluator. Each of our Nurse Evaluators can test up to seven (7) Candidates in a given day.
